cactus garden
Lost At Sea March 2010
This song uses bars of different timing, has a rocky verse and a psychedelic chorus.
Voted best song KAE Challenge March 2010
Harvest Time Harvest Time April 2010
Gone for a  ye olde folke sound with a rocking, distorted, prog blues bass solo in the middle.

How To Cross The Desert  January 2010

Simple western style song with a desert theme
apollo 11 moon landing Far Up Above September 2009

Epic tale of Apollo 11 moon landing.
Lestat Lestat November 2009

About the Ann Rice character Lestat
bob Bass The Girl From Chimbote June 2009

This months song has a Latin feel and great piano work from Russell.
KOP King Of Pop August 2009

An ode to the late, great MJ.
farm bob Smiles and Tears April 2009

This months theme is to be "Home"
I tried to capture the worry that parents must feel when their children are away.
Mammoth Hunt Mammoth Hunt May 2009
Not a monthly Challenge song.
Just wrote this song one Saturday afternoon and recorded it the following week.
I like the concept, tells a nice story and has a nice feel.
Deliverance book cover The River February 2009

This tells the story of the 1972 film Deliverance.
Thanks again to Russell on keyboards for the beautiful violin and french horn.
Voted best Challenge song for February 2009

Water sounds from stinkhorn at freesound

BW_bass Things I Did Today March 2009

This song is a bit rockier for me. I was after a "wall of sound".
Thanks to Russell for the Santana Stunt Guitar and other sounds.
Voted best Challenge song for March 2009

Lord of War December 2008

Not written for the Challenge. Just something that came to me while I was strumming the Tanglewood. Thanks to Ryan (USA) and Spiral  (Finland) for the electric guitar parts.

Remember the Time January 2009

A LoVe Song
This is a love song full of mushy cliches.

You Don't Know My Name October 2008

My first attempt at ComboProg Rock!
Very ably assisted by Russell again on Hammond and the raging synth solo. Thanks again Russell!
Bob at the Mount

That Train  November 2008

Based on a 12-bar progression. Has a Western feel to it.
Perhaps playing the Eagles is starting to rub off on me?

Lost and Found

Lost and Found July 2008

This song was supposed to be in 3/4 but it ended up as 9/8.
The theme was to be Lost and Found but I'm not sure if those words appear in it at all.
Has a nice feel and lots of harmonies.
bob on bass again

Jamaica Wolf June 2008

A reggae song, with the word June in it.
I borrowed a Squire Strat for this one.
Look out for the rocking middle eight guitar solo.
Drum loops courtesy of Vincent Sermonne
Faith

Faith February 2008

The rules this month were that the song had to be 3'30" or less and use the word 'Faith' in the lyric.
This is the full 4 minute version.
Quite a groovy song with a bit of a soul feel.
The best part is that Russell from the Bald Eagles played keyboards on it for me. Thanks Russell.
Bob on Bass

Change Of Season  April 2008

This song compares aging to the changing of the seasons.
The instruments were all recorded "live" to Kristal Audio Engine with no external editing.
It is a straightforward Pop song with a slight Calypso feel.

Mayflower December November 2007

The theme was that the song had to contain a reference to December.
I thought I would do something a bit silly and boppy.
Very hastily recorded as I had just regained my voice after losing it for two days and the deadline drew near.

Hope December 2007

This is as close to an anti-war song as CombobobPop will allow.
The themes to include in this song were:
  • include the word Hope in the Lyrics.
  • use either a 5/4 or 7/8 time signature.
Listen out for the section in the middle that contrasts beauty with ugliness.

Blood on the Frets July 2007

You guessed it. That is what the title had to be!
It's a bit retro, folky, in a minor key with a major key uplifting chorus.
I tried a weird filter effect on the middle eight guitar solo.

Heaven Sent September 2007

The theme for this song was that it was to start on a D major chord and end on and F major chord.
I really like the chord progression and vocals. This is one of my favourites!

bob no teeth

Summer Rain June 2007

When you win a Challenge you get to pick the next months theme. I picked a weather or environment theme.
Being a Beach Boys lover I thought I would try my hand at a Surf type song.
This is just a nice ballad about meeting your love in unusual circumstances.
I am a little surprised, but this song has had the most listens and downloads from my Soundclick page than any of my other songs.

A Place For Us April 2007

This is a Love song.
There has been a little criticism of the midi middle eight but I refuse to go back and re-do it.
I like the feel of this song. Very Chill!
And it was voted the winner of that months Challenge!
